Famagusta

Famagusta
The Famagusta District, on the island's east coast, was once the main port of Cyprus and a popular resort. After the Turkish invasion the areas of Ayia Napa and Protaras were redeveloped to become one of the largest resort areas on the island with many hotels, shops, tavernas, discos and bars.

Within this region there are many villages and towns that are proving popular with buyers.

The town of Paralimni continues to grow in popularity and it gives easy access to some of the best beaches on the island. The resort of Protaras with Fig Tree Bay at its heart is always popular for investment and holiday homes. The smaller resort of Penera is always a favourite for families and the upcoming star is the area of Kapparis, with its sandy beaches and own distinct area of tavernas and bars springing up, this promises to be a year round destination. The villages slightly in land offer good value as they are only a ten minute drive from the coast. Frenaros and Dyrenia offer a more traditional way of life yet they are within very easy reach of the larger town of Paralimni. Move further south and you are in the better known resorts of Agia Napa, with its magnificent Nissi Beach and vibrant nightlife.

Away from the main tourist areas, many ex-pats live in the villages and towns only a short drive from the sandy coastline and far from going to sleep in the winter these areas offer a year round lifestyle.

About Paralimni
The largest town in the eastern southern fringe of Cyprus, it has taken over as the administration centre for the Famagusta region. There is nothing you can't find here, modern shops and offices stand beside traditional coffee shops and old stores, you will find small roads that are towered over by old Venetian style houses, old women still wearing the traditional black garb and the men sitting outside the local coffee shops playing back gammon while the younger generation goes by in the latest fashions.

Beautifully constructed modern day churches overlook the old and crumbling architecture of the older worshiping grounds that house fading mosaics, a drink of coffee in a modern cafe whilst listening to the afternoon church service and the harmonious church bells as they ring out across the old square and warm smiles will greet you everywhere.

Paralimni has grown over the recent years and is now a location that offers year around living, modern shops radiate out from the village square, offering residents a wide choice for shopping, there is even a Marks & Spencers here!

About Protaras
Looked over by green rolling hills and the church of Profitis Elias that stands on a hill over 100meters high, the small town of Protaras has a magic all of it's own. Golden sand and sparkling blue waters make for some of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

You can find rugged cliffs standing high over small, sandy coves and local fish tavernas serving fresh fish while you take in the wonderful scenery. A short drive inland will lead you to the scenic "Valley of the Windmills" where what seems like hundreds of rotating fan blades help to pump the water that irrigates this fertile land. The roads in Protaras are of an excellent standard constructed with large pedestrian and cycle routes at the sides. The entire length of the main coastal road in Protaras which spans from Paralimni via Protaras and into Ayia Napa (about 15km) is lined with a large pedestrian route that is ideal for walkers and bikers.

For those of you that prefer being closer to nature, there is a wooden path that can be followed around the coast, across rocky coves and secluded beaches where you will find small churches perched high on the rocky landscape overlooking the sea..

About Penera
Year after year, visitors come back to the charming resort of Penera, it really has that holiday feel and boasts all of the attractions you would expect with some excellent restaurants and superb sandy beaches. Take the beach road walk right through to its larger neighbour of Protaras, no worries about cars on this road as it is the original dirt road, and you will have such amazing views. Stop for a snack and a drink at one of the small tavernas that have opened up along this route and enjoy an uninterrupted view of the sea.

An excellent location to buy property with a view to Buy to Let or Buy to Sell, this area has great potential.

About Dyrenia
Dyrenia is where you will find the old and the new working in harmony. It has the advantages of a traditional village and the conveniences of a contemporary town with many modern shops and boutiques lining its busy streets. In the evening it comes to life with many locals enjoying the hospitality at one of the traditional restaurants. Only minutes away from the busy resorts of Protaras and Ayia Napa and the larger town of Paralimni is only a few minutes drive away.

About Kapparis
Unspoilt, secluded sandy coves where you can have the beach to yourself all day long and local hospitality from the numerous tavernas are what you will find in Kapparis. A well kept secret that is just now starting to be discovered. And for those who want a busier time then the town of Paralimni is just a few minutes drive away and the resorts of Protaras and Agia Napa only 10 and 15 minutes drive away.

Slowly, new bars and restaurants are being established on the main Kapparis road that leads to Famagusta providing visitors to the area all amenities without having to go to the neighbouring areas.

Property prices in this area have remained at realistic levels whilst other areas of Cyprus have seen marked increases. Now with the possible settlement of the Cyprus issue and future regeneration of the city of Famagusta it is felt that prices in this largely unspoilt are will start to rise sharply. Prior to 1974, Famagusta was the major tourist and commercial area of Cyprus and with the best beaches on the island it is set to attain that position once more following a settlement.

About Agia Napa
Much has been written about this resort and in the past it has suffered from a bad press, the truth is that this once small sleepy fishing village has grown into a great family resort area with lots of activities and entertainments for all the family, stunning new hotels and simply magnificent beaches is what makes visitors return year after year. Just a short drive away from the centre and you reach the peace and tranquillity that is Cape Greco, the eastern most point of Cyprus, where the whole area is protected and you feel you are in another world. In the centre of Agia Napa older properties are being renovated and offered for sale at reasonably good prices that appeal to the buy to let investor. Newer developments within the resort are rare as most of the land has been used up. Going west out of Agia Napa will bring you to the area of Agia Thekla where extensive development has taken place along the coast. At this time this area is lacking in amenities of any sort and you would need to travel to the nearby villages to get even the most basic of provisions.
